As a teen I was fascinated by DC’s Firestorm, a gestalt character with the ability to manipulate the elements. Unfortunately his TV and video game appearances generally use him as a souped-up Human Torch. Here’s our first look at Jason Rusch and Martin Stein shooting fireballs in Injustice 2.
Yeah, we get a little phasing and a little flying. At one point he takes on the blue coloration of Deathstorm, which is nifty. But for the most part, he’s shooting fire.
The Professor Stein and Jax Jackson version of Firestorm in TV’s Arrowverse has briefly flirted with transmuting elements, but that’s probably not as exciting and easy to render as great gouts of flame.
As for his video game appearance, Firestorm runs into the same problem as a Green Lantern. The comic book characters might be able to do everything all the time, but that’s got to be reined in to fit these characters into the format.
Man, Legends of Tomorrow Firestorm really needs a cool helmet.
Injustice 2 arrives on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in May.
