Sometimes a game comes along that feels like it’s just asking for streamer Northernlion to take notice and gradually go insane as he plays it for an audience that will clip it, circulate it, and likely blow it up far beyond its anticipated audience. Nas Nakarus, CEO of Nano Neighbors developer Studio BitDot, seems to be making one of these games, and depending on who you ask, it either sounds like a meditative experience or an exercise in frustration, taking the expression “finding a needle in a haystack” to its most extreme.
Nakarus shared a clip of the unnamed game in development on Twitter, showcasing a 5-million-piece haystack with one needle somewhere in the mess. You can see the player taking one piece of hay out at a time and tossing it to the side, all in hopes of finding the smallest, thinnest piece of sharp metal imaginable buried in the golden mass, and from the looks of it, that’s all you’re really doing in the game. Whether that sounds like a relaxing time or something that might cause you to stick a needle in your eye is probably diagnosable by a personality test.

Though the game isn’t available yet, Nakarus says a Steam page should be up and running soon. Elsewhere he hints that there will be some kind of multiplayer component if several players want to dive into the haystack or drag their friends into doing their digital chores. Nakarus explains that this is meant to be “the absolute limit” for people who like to do small, mundane tasks in video games as a meditative outlet, but it will offer players some tools that might make things easier or more chaotic depending on what you’re using.

As of this writing, the initial post has accumulated over 48 million views, so we’ll see if that translates into people actually wanting to undertake this absurd task when the Steam page eventually goes up.
