A little while ago, Riot Games asked the students at the FZD School of Design to submit some designs for League of Legends champions. They did good.
Sure, not all of them strictly fit the design style of the actual game, but they all look awesome regardless.
I think my favourite is Jens Bengtsson’s voodoo pirate. Because, well, voodoo pirates.
