PC gaming storefront Steam might be known for its huge sales but its rival, the Epic Games Store, isn’t to be ignored this Halloween season. To get you in the spooky mood, the store is currently running a massive sale on a myriad of games perfect for delivering some October chills. But you better grab these deals quickly, as the sale ends on November 1.

There’s plenty of horror games in this sale for those in the mood for a good scare. Perhaps the best deal is on last year’s genre masterpiece Alan Wake 2, which also has a discount on all of its expansions (including the just released Lake House DLC). The sale also slashes the price on 4v1 multiplayer slasher game Dead by Daylight.

If you aren’t into thrills and chills, don’t worry, this sale still has some good games for you to choose from. Marvel’s Spider-Man, Grand Theft Auto V, and Overcooked 2 all have a nice discount during the sale. Think of these games as your little treats for the holiday.

Here are the ten best games to grab while the Epic Games Store Halloween sale is still on.

Alan Wake 2 (and its DLC)

Alan Wake 2 (and its DLC)

Xbox

Remedy Entertainment’s long-awaited sequel to the original cult classic was worth the wait. One of the best games of 2023 and one of the best horror games ever made, Alan Wake 2 is a triumph of storytelling and game design. This is maybe the perfect game for Halloween, and you can also grab its equally exceptional DLC for half off during the sale.

Alan Wake Remastered

PlayStation

OK, so you’ve played Alan Wake 2. How about the original? The cult classic isn’t as action-heavy as its sequel but the Stephen King and Twin Peaks-inspired mystery of Alan Wake still stuns thanks to strong storytelling from the folks at Remedy.

Dead by Daylight

Dead by Daylight

What could be more fun than running around trying to kill your friends (in a video game)? Not much. Dead by Daylight is perfect for a night in with friends (lights off, of course). The game lets you live out your horror movie dreams and prove that you could actually escape the crazed killer.

Marvel’s Spider-Man

Marvel’s Spider-Man

PlayStation

The only connection to Halloween that I can think of is that a lot of people like to dress up as Spider-Man. That’s a good enough excuse to buy the best superhero game since Arkham City.

BioShock: The Collection

BioShock: The Collection

2K

There’s always a lighthouse and it’s always a good time to play the BioShock trilogy. While it may not hit as hard as it did when originally released in 2007, the immersive FPS that kicked off the series is still impressive thanks to its unparalleled atmosphere that brings players into a utopia underwater gone wrong. BioShock 2 might be even better than the first. BioShock Infinite is also part of the collection.

The Last of Us Part I

The Last of Us Part I

PlayStation

The crown jewel of PlayStation is available on PC and you really shouldn’t miss it. The Last of Us tells a wonderfully executed story led by powerhouse performances from Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson as Joel and Ellie. Part 1 remakes the game, meaning it’s never looked better.

Returnal

PlayStation

For a while Returnal was the best thing about owning a PlayStation 5. The third-person shooter roguelike stunned thanks to its tight gunplay, impressive visuals, and addictive loop. Uncovering the many secrets of Returnal never gets old, which is good since you’ll die a lot on the way to the game’s ending.

Blasphemous 2

Blasphemous 2

PlayStation

There are a lot of amazing indie Metroidvanias out there, but none are more fit for Halloween than Blasphemous 2. Steeped in imagery of Catholicism, the game pulls on threads of religious trauma and violence and makes for a visually stunning adventure full of blood.

The Jackbox Party Packs

The Jackbox Party Packs

Jackbox Games

Jackbox remains the best party game to play with friends thanks to its ease of use and wealth of minigames to choose from. I’d suggest picking up Party Pack 4 so you can play Fibbage: Enough About You and Monster Seeking Monster, but the first nine packs are all included in the sale.

Scorn

PlayStation

Imagine a BioShock-like game designed by artist H. R. Giger. That’s Scorn. The survival horror shooter is a gross, fleshy experience that unnerves you at every turn. Which is great! Fans of Alien should especially enjoy this unique experience.
