EA Readies Short Attention Span Tetris

Coming this spring to Android and iOS, Tetris Blitz takes the lightning round concept of Bejeweled Blitz and applies it to the world's most beloved poozle (Russian for puzzle, probably) game. This does not mean you won't spend an hour playing Tetris in the bathroom at work—you'll just get a lot more games in one sitting.

It might be the flashiest version of Tetris yet, filled with power-ups and spectacular finishers that end your timed round of play in an explosion of line-clearing special effects. There's even a Frenzy Mode that kicks in if you're fast enough, which is exactly what Tetris needed, I guess.

You'll have to purchase those power moves using either in-game currency or real-world monies, as this is a freemium title and EA has to make its money somewhere. It'll all be worth it when you see your name at the top of your weekly Facebook friends tournament leaderboards, if you're into that sort of thing.

I find blitz-style games to be obnoxious time wasters. The rounds are only a minute long, but that just makes it so much easier to hit the play again button at the end. Isn't Tetris addictive enough?
