Last week's strong showing by the Wii doesn't repeat this week, as the Nintendo DSi rightfully reclaims its seat at the top of the Japanese hardware sales chart. Things quickly get ugly in the bottom half.
While the DSi, Wii and PSP continue to sell strongly week in and week out, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 still languish with less than 6,000 units, according to Media Create. There really just hasn't been much in the way of system selling software for either console this summer, but the Japanese release list begins to pick up a bit in September.
Of course, some of that underwhelming performance could be attributed to a lack of supply, at least on the part of the PS3, in the country.
Here's how the Japanese console war went down for the week of August 3 to August 9.
- Nintendo DSi - 70,066
- Wii - 47,140
- PSP - 33,893
- Nintendo DS Lite - 8,699
- PlayStation 3 - 5,826
- Xbox 360 - 5,436
- PlayStation 2 - 4,601
