Adventure game fans, now is the time to begin squeeing and flailing with joy.

Ragnar Tørnquist, the man behind The Longest Journey and Dreamfall-and recent MMO The Secret World-has formed a new studio and actually begun production on Dreamfall Chapters, Funcom announced today.

In a press release, Funcom said that Red Thread Games, Tørnquist's new studio, has "licensed the rights to ‘The Longest Journey' universe from Funcom, and Mr. Tørnquist will spearhead development of Dreamfall Chapters, while continuing in an advisory role as Creative Director" on The Secret World.

Dreamfall was released early in 2006 and ended in such a way that a sequel or follow-up seemed almost mandatory. Dreamfall Chapters has been discussed since 2007, but despite repeated promises from Tørnquist that the project would eventually happen, some fans (like yours truly) didn't think it seemed likely ever to come together.

Oh me of little faith. "Ever since we ended Dreamfall on a nail-biting cliffhanger, players have been rightfully demanding a sequel, and my deal with Funcom will finally make that possible," Tørnquist said in the press release. "I'm extremely grateful to Funcom for this unique and exciting opportunity, and I can't wait to dive back into the universe I helped create more than a decade ago, and continue the story players have been waiting for these past six years."

I think this needs to be reposted or brought to everyone's attention since it was posted during the downtime (I assume?), considering there's no comments, yet it's a new addition in a series containing the supposed 2nd best Adventure game ever.
