Triforce, the same guys behind that awesome 1:1 Mass Effect rifle, are also releasing a 1:1 weapon from the Gears of War universe.

Seeing as the company already did a Lancer, this time they're focusing on a COG Snub Pistol.

Going on sale in December and limited to 500 units, it's selling for, ahem, $400.

So, why the assumption that in The Future, weapons technology will be much *larger* and bulkier? What, out of all *other* product design evidence before us, would support that?

I mean, personal communications technology used to be the size of a large backpack and required that one whole human being per squad be tasked with carrying it. Or, in a non-mobile context, communicators were so big you had to *climb inside them on street corners*. Now they fit in a pocket.

So weaponwise, would we not also assume that instead things will go in a Star Trek/Apple direction and that absolutely earth-shattering weapons will instead have a ladylike mold and slim form factor, fitting comfortably into a pants pocket?

Or maybe weapons technology is just different: In The Future, many of us will still be trying to compensate for something . . .
