Despite feedback from Tecmo's overseas offices to "tone down the sexuality" of Dead or Alive 5's female fighters, the game's developers bravely pressed ahead in the name of fan service.


"We actually got a lot of feedback from people who were playing it, saying, 'We want bigger breasts. Make the characters more like that.'" director Yohei Shimbori told Gamasutra. "That was kind of surprising."

Ya don't say. You know, I'd like to see bewbs in EVERYTHING I play, and I'm about to play a lot of NBA 2K13. But 2K Sports didn't make bouncy boobs one of the game's presentational upgrades this year—because it exercised something called creative discretion, which means evaluating whether you want to put swaying breasts in the game you are making.


Team Ninja is pressing ahead with the super-sexy you-want-it-you-got-it line, classifying the jiggle as some kind of a consumer need. "If you have a solid fighting game system there, there's nothing wrong with having beautiful characters as a layer on top of that—that's another layer of entertainment that there's a need for," Shimbori told Gamasutra. "If there wasn't a need for it, people wouldn't have responded to the alpha demo like they did, and send us feedback."

The oversexualization is actually a turn off for a lot of players. I don't think the boobs are really leading to more sales, even if it's a great fighting game, I know many people who don't take DOA seriously because of this.
