OK, we can all stop asking now (for this game, anyway). Nintendo just announced that Donkey Kong Country is coming to the Switch Online’s catalogue of retro games on July 15.

It’ll be joined by SNES game Natsume Championship Wrestling, while The Immortal—which you may know more for its box art than the game itself—is also arriving on the NES side of things.

Grief hits you in the weirdest ways. I lost my father to COVID in early April. (He was already in ill health, and was recovering from an operation in the hospital when he caught it, and passed away a week later.) When I was growing up, the SNES was the first system we got, and I have very fond memories of playing DKC with him (which usually meant him dying in 15 seconds, handing me the controller, and then being a cheerleader). Seeing this, it’s hard to not imagine telling dad, and then getting to relive some of those days playing it together while we’re all still quarantined. Even three months out, it’s a gut punch to know that’s a dream I will never see realized.
