Jim Guthrie, who provided the original soundtrack for the iOS hit Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, seems to think maybe so. Yesterday he noticed this post by Hip Hop is Read, which compares "The Cloud" from the game's soundtrack with Lil Wayne and Drake's "She Will," due out Aug. 29. Judge for yourself, but the melody under the drums and vocals does sound similar.
The way I see it...the way African American music was 'appropriated', redone and redistributed by artists like Elvis Presley et al. back in the day, and without the original artists/songwriters seeing little if any royalties to boot should give hip hop artists a pass on sampling.
Black folks never got their 40 acres and a mule...so let some of their descendants have a 5-7 second sample, and let them make their money.
