Last year, legendary film maker Ridley Scott signed on to helm a prequel to the Alien film he directed 1979 sci-fi classic Alien. The idea of Scott doing another Alien film sounds terrific. But is it actually going to happen?

"There's no question about it," Scott tells MTV, "we're going to make the film." Currently, Scott is working on the script's fourth draft. A story has been hammered out, and Scott needs to get the script in good enough shape so he can figure out the budget.

"It's set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney [Weaver's character Ellen Ripley]," says Scott. "It's fundamentally about going out to find out 'Who the hell was that Space Jockey?' The guy who was sitting in the chair in the alien vehicle - there was a giant fellow sitting in a seat on what looked to be either a piece of technology or an astronomer's chair."

The movie, which will apparently be in 3D, could be out in theaters in 2011 or 2012. According to Scott, it will not be necessary to have previously seen the earlier Alien films to understand the prequel.
