Dark Souls Might Get An "Easy" Mode

Dark Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki is thinking seriously about adding an "easy" mode to the game.

Speaking to London's Metro, he says of the notoriously difficult game, "I personally want my games to be described as satisfying rather than difficult. As a matter of fact, I am aiming at giving players sense of accomplishment in the use of difficulty."

"Having said that, however, it is true that Dark Souls is rather difficult and a number of people may hesitate to play. This fact is really sad to me and I am thinking about whether I should prepare another difficulty that everyone can complete or carefully send all gamers the messages behind our difficult games."

Aside from being almost an oxymoron, given the game's reputation, an "easy" Dark Souls would be quite the thing to see. Without much in the way of strong characters or dialogue, what would Dark Souls be without caution and death, its current bread and butter?

It'd certainly test out another developer's theory that such things can "break" a game that's otherwise built around the challenge.

Though of course he's only talking about adding an easy option, not making the whole game easier for everyone. Nothing wrong with giving people the choice!
