All that being said, the only character I am absolutely (mostly) sure is going to make it out of 2×2’s Slayhem route is Peko Pekoyama, the Ultimate Swordswoman. Having presented herself as a “tool” for Fuyuhiko’s bidding up until just before her death at the hands of Monokuma, Peko only truly self-actualizes in the moments before she meets her untimely demise. Once Fuyuhiko refuses to treat her like a weapon, acknowledging her personhood and free will at a time when it would have been more beneficial for him to go along with the ruse and escape Jabberwock Island at her expense, Peko lets down the facade. For just a few brief minutes, she and Fuyuhiko speak to each other as equals, and then she dies protecting him from Monokuma one final time. I don’t see how 2×2, with its opportunity to explore new dynamics and arcs, doesn’t end up swapping Peko with Fuyuhiko. She dies so early on in Danganronpa 2 as a springboard for Fuyuhiko’s growth, so now, it’s time to see those roles reversed. Let’s see Peko acknowledge her personhood and find out who she is without serving the Ultimate Yakuza.

We’ll check back when Danganronpa 2×2 finally launches to see if any of these predictions were right. Until then, I guess go play The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy. You’re probably still missing some of those 100 endings, right?
