Previously known simply as Project Mercury, Curt Schilling's 38 Studios and EA finally give the Todd McFarlane, R.A. Salvatore, and Ken Rolston powered role-playing game a name, promising open world exploration and fast-paced action combat in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
It sounds a bit generic, but that's sure to change once we get a good look at the game later this week, when it makes its trailer debut during Comic-Con 2010.
What we know so far, is that Reckoning is a single-player open-world role-playing game with action-packed combat, set in a world designed by the words of acclaimed science-fiction author R.A. Salvatore and the artistic vision of Todd McFarlane, creator of Spawn. From there, RPG legend Ken Rolston takes over.
"In Reckoning, we started with Bob and Todd's exceptional Kingdoms of Amalur game setting and imagery," said Ken Rolston, Lead Designer at Big Huge Games, a subsidiary of 38 Studios. "On that foundation we built the open-world exploration, vast narrative and character customization fans expect from the best RPGs. And we've added something new that we've always wanted from the genre — a fast-paced, graphically stimulating action combat experience with fluid control and immersive, discoverable gameplay fans haven't seen before in other fantasy RPGs."
It sounds more like an open-world action game with RPG elements to me, sort of a God of War with experience points.
We'll know much more later this week, when the Comic-Con panel gives Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning more meaning.
