Dragon’s Dogma 2 is getting DLC in October, and Capcom gave us a longer look yesterday at some of what we can expect from it. There are new customization options, new abilities, “improvements” to Dragonsplague (my ass), and a whole new region. But you know what I’m most excited about?
Climbing up on top of some brand new big monster guys and whacking them on the head.
Climbing monsters is a quintessential part of Dragon’s Dogma, going all the way back to the first game. Unless you’re playing a mage (like I did for most of my first playthrough, oops), the ideal way to beat up a troll, or a gryphon, or drake, or whatever other big guy is currently assaulting you is to run around behind it, get up on its back, climb to its head, and start swinging. This is even more fun when the enemy has wings, because they can take off with you on their back and turn the fight into a dangerous sky battle, even dropping you halfway across the map if you’re not careful.
So now, in Dark Arisen 2, there are going to be more big guys to climb. Like this yeti thing. Is this just a fuzzy troll with bigger tusks? Absolutely. Am I still stoked to climb it? You bet I am:

I really, really hope we get some truly new enemies, too. From what we’ve seen so far, a lot of the new guys are reskinned old guys, but with sick ice powers added in. That’s fine, game development is hard and expensive and time consuming, I will happily climb the fuzzy troll and the slightly-different-colored drake. But a new creature or two that have cool body parts to climb on would really make this DLC for me. Especially now that I’ve gotten more comfortable playing melee classes. Though, if Capcom wanted to give me some kind of magic melee spell I could blast into the brains of a yeti, I wouldn’t complain.
