The visceral thrill of Gears of War is (indeed) coming to a tabletop near you with Gears of War: The Board Game, the latest video game to board game adaptation from Fantasy Flight Games.
They're the people who have turned video games like StarCraft and Civilization into board game form, but they also do plenty of non-video game stuff, like A Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings and Call of Cthulhu. Fantasy Flight's Gears of War board game is a four-player cooperative affair, one that includes cover-based tactics and even Roadie Runs.
As a group of COG soldiers, you'll take on Locust "AI cards" in a series of missions that recreate "classic moments from Gears of War and Gears of War 2."
Gears of War: The Board Game was designed by Corey Konieczka, who helped create Fantasy Flight's World of Warcraft adventure game and its StarCraft board games. It sounds deep, with more than 30 plastic figures, 200-plus cards, 17 map tiles and tons of other things stuffed in this package to make it worth your $79.95 USD.
No firm release date yet, but it looks like Gears of War: The Board Game is due sometime this year. Additional details at the official site.
