You may recall Casey Heynes, the chunky kid who was tired of being bullied and became an icon. Now he's immortalized—overmortalized?—in this video that mixes back in all the sound and visual effects we all heard in our mind when we first watched Casey piledrive his bully into the schoolyard concrete. I feel like I may be the only person who holds this opinion, but I think the big kid stepped way over the line. I would never condone bullying, and I certainly believe that kids should be allowed to defend themselves from violence, but the skinny kid clearly posed no threat to the big kid. His puny punches look to be more an annoyance than an actual threat to anyone's safety.
By responding in such an extreme manner and bodyslamming the other child into a hard floor, the big kid risked causing permanent injury or even death. How is that an appropriate response to a couple of weak punches?
Sometimes I wonder how far some of you think it's ok to go when defending yourself from something like this. If the big kid had brought a gun to school and blown the other kid's brains out, would that have been ok too? The whole situation sickens me, and it's even worse when the whole internet seems to be ecstatic about the prospect of a giant kid destroying somebody half his size.
