Is there any way around Microsoft's mandatory 24-hour "check in" on the Xbox One? Nope. Well, there is one. It just doesn't involve buying an Xbox One.

Speaking with Destructoid, Microsoft's Phil Spencer was asked what someone with no internet access would do if they wanted to buy an Xbox One.

"I mean the analogy, and I don't know if it's a great analogy… let's say I live in an area that doesn't have cell service. I wouldn't go buy a cell phone. Now, I might roam in different areas where my cellphone becomes active."

"The 360 ecosystem is a great ecosystem for somebody that's in a purely disconnected state for long periods of time. We have built a natively connected device with Xbox One and we think the experiences are moving in that direction."

I wonder just how long it's going to take hackers to break the "check in" requirement once the console is released in November.

Here's why you'll need to be online [Destructoid]

I'm fine with the 24hr check in. It's built into the system, devs can rely on it. Yeah, it's not just about the DRM. Who knows what they can do knowing that every box will be online (thats what the 24 thing really means, devs can rely on the fact that people will be connected). MS is thinking ahead of right now. They are moving into the cloud quickly and I am excited what devs will do with it. They know it will be there, for everyone who plays their game on X1 so things can be programmed from the start knowing that. It could be bigs things, it could be small things, we don't know much yet (they need to get devs, not MS, to talk more about the cloud side) but it can be something great.

I've owned a NES, SNES, Genisis, 64, PSX, PS2, Xbox, 360 and PS3. I will buy both this next gen as well but I am more excited for the future of what the X1 could be then the ps4. The X1 is taking risks, some of them hated (even slightly by me) but risks all the same. The ps4 is more of the same. It is a PS3, with better graphics and paid online. Just like ps3 was a ps2 with better graphics and so on and so on. I for one can't wait to see what devs will do with the X1, I know what devs will do with PS4 (not that it's a bad thing, it's just nothing new).

Now call me an idiot.
