For every 1,000 players who don the emblem on Wednesday or Thursday next week, in either Halo 3 or Halo 3:ODST, Bungie will donate $100 to the Red Cross' relief efforts for Haiti. Essentially, they're betting they can get 770,000 players to make the gesture in a two day span. I'd say that's likely.

That's one aspect of their philanthropy. The other is a special edition of the Superintendent "Be a Hero" T-shirt. Bungie says 100 percent of the shirt's $19.99 price will also go to Haiti's recovery through the American Red Cross.

Why don't they just donate the 77k rather than trying to make people feel good about essentially doing nothing. Its like you're donning the emblem to convince Bungie to be charitable. They should just donate the damn money!

The reason they are doing it this way is so they can show everyone that they're donating money without saying 'we donated money'. Everyone has to always brag about their 'kindness'. The shirts are proof enough of this.

I have nothing against donation, ultimately this is a good thing. Its just this unnecessary self-glorification and promotion in the process that pisses me off.
