Battlefield's Taken a Piece of Call of Duty's Pie, Says Peter Moore

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 left an inch-deep bootprint on video gaming's biggest retail month, and dominated most measures the popular press use to designate big-game-itude. Yet Peter Moore, the Electronic Arts chief operating officer, is insisting his label's Battlefield 3 drew blood from the year's biggest commercial release.

"I think when the dust fully settles, maybe when we're looking at the end of our fiscal year, we'll do an analysis and I think we will have taken [market] share," Moore told MCV. "I don't think there's any doubt about that, unless everything BF3 sells is just incremental."

Moore also suggested that the BattlefieldModern Warfare rivalry benefitted "gamers and the industry," so he may be offering a deeper meaning than the usual zero-sum calculation. Maybe the market grew. Maybe Battlefield took more of that market. Maybe a bunch of people bought both Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3, considering the first came out two weeks before the second, who knows.

I just know that we're due for annual releases of both series from now until who knows when, both published by companies with unearthly resources, so no matter what happened or happened this year, it's not settled.

EA: Battlefield 3 stole market share from Modern Warfare 3 [MCV]

Played Caspian border the other day, hopped in a tank and drove in a circle from A to B to C to D and over again. I never shot at or killed anyone. At the end of the game our team won and I had overall top score in a 12v12 conquest game. WHOOP DEE DO.

BF3 is a joke. It's for people that suck at COD, designed to make them feel better because they can't play a FPS without getting their asses kicked.

My favorite part of BF3, besides spawn camping, is getting killed by the invisible opponent. Then when falling over dead the game engine decides that is the time to draw the enemy that was right in front of you, shooting you. Frostbite 2 FTW. AWESOME!

EA saying they've sold 10M copies is complete BS. You can still pick up Limited Editions at various retailers if you look. Go into any store that sells used games and you'll find a copy of BF3. Try and find a used copy of MW3, fat chance.

It's been over a month since retail release and there's still no fix for the crap they didn't get to from the beta. Screen tearing, random screen flashes, clipping, pop in, joining a game with a squad is still broken, tactical lights, spawning into gunfire or a destroyed vehicle, can't exit a game during intermission or edit the classes. Getting shot by invisible opponents. Dead servers, the matchmaking sucks. You join a server and once people leave, the server never fills up and you end up with a 10 vs 4 match then 6v6 then the server is dead. Lens flare, lens flare, everywhere LENS FLARE. DICE figured out how to blind players with light bulbs. Amazing.

I think these sales figures are bogus. If it's sold so many copies, why are there more people playing Skyrim? Hell there are more people playing the year old Black Ops online than BF3. COD has the #1, #2, #6 and #20 spot on Xbox live.
