My main fantasy recc was Dungeon World which now has a weird legacy on account of one of its writers. I’ve heard great things about Quest as a really streamlined system! Read more

I think these are really good points! Failing forward is good, but I think PbtA has an over-reliance on Moves which can put players in situations where they’re set up to take a big hit for what could be a small talk. Which is why, IMO, you just let people skip rolling when stuff isn’t worth them taking a hit. But Read more

I mean I think that people overestimate the difficulty of learning smaller systems because of how daunting larger games like D&D can be! Learning a Forged in the Dark game takes like... not even half the time of learning a new d20 based game.

Hi, hello, I want to clarify something I’ve seen said a lot. I don’t dislike crunch by any means! In fact, I like it a lot when it is well presented and used in interesting ways. I am the roguelike person on the website. I also do not think depth is bad by any means! Read more

This is great advice! Especially re: letting your companions level themselves. Sadly, some of the difficulty levels (the one I chose because I’m a tryhard) don’t have a full respec. Read more

Also, as someone who has spent most of her time playing TTRPGs GM’ing, building your narrative and encounters around what your players are interested in doing (which they flag in character creation) is basic good GM’ing practice. I don’t think that making a character I find interesting first and foremost signals Read more

Like I said in the piece, I do like crunch actually! However, that crunch can be used to totally different ends depending on the game. Lancer, an indie ttrpg about mech, is super crunchy and uses its crunch to tell interesting stories about giant robots. Telling interesting stories with my friends is always the goal, Read more

The city gets worse with every kill, regardless of who it is. Every dead body spreads the rat plague, and makes it harder to get the low chaos ending. It also means more weepers, which means there’s a higher detection chance for Corvo, which again raises your chaos ranking. More dead people means higher chaos, and a Read more

This is not true. The amount of Typhon Neuromods you use and the number of Typhon you kill instead of sneaking past are both contributing factors towards your ending. They’re definitely not the determining factors but they are counted. Certain decisions are weighted more highly, just like killing targets in Dishonored Read more

I wouldn’t say there’s any reason to be afraid per se, as the issue stops once you exit the loading screens which are pretty fast. I could be wrong about this, but I think its fine overall, if annoying. Especially since only some consoles seem to produce this sound. Read more

Actually, it wasn’t the disk. It was the used hard drive! This is a real story I promise lmao. Read more

The honest answer here is the power dynamics involved. Its less queer sex positivity vs hetero sex positivity, and more about who gets to be positive and what that positivity gets to look like. Read more

Let me clarify. I am firmly pro big ladies and their continued presence in the space. I just think its weird when queer sex positivity is co-opted by major corporations. Read more

Its so bad! It is *phenomenally* bad. Outer Wilds is probably my favorite game of all time, so coming into this I was a bit excited and its just... An absolute mess. Also, I say this for a line but it bears repeating, holy shit its stiff to play. Read more

As an avid Monster Hunter fan I’d agree with this! Although I think its much more in conversation with Rise and World than the rest of the series, and given that they launched in 2018 and 2021 respectively I can see a case being made that their influence here was limited. Read more

shitposting aside, I’d say my main areas of focus are roguelikes, RPGs of both the action, character, and turn based variety, tactics games, and uh, gestures broadly, weird shit. definitely interested in co-op multiplayer games, although I Read more
