I’m mixed on YoTBR. Definitely the album I break out the least, but I find that it’s perfect for really specific (read: usually bad) moods. I do agree that it lacks some soul. Individual songs like Flame of Error and Pearl of the Stars are killer, but the album as a whole is missing something. It feels like as much a… Read more
I don’t think it’s the worst thing they’ve ever put out by any means. It’s a solid pop song. Reminds me of Feathers, Away We Go, 2’s My Favorite 1, etc. Would I have liked to see a first single more along the lines of, say, Domino? Yeah. But they did that last time. Reserving judgment on the full album until it’s out. Read more
I didn’t, sadly. This one is a blast, though. I’m worried about the lack of modes, but part of me likes it when games are this pure. I hope I continue to enjoy it as much as I am now. Read more
Oh god, I’ve wanted to play Metal Wolf Chaos for years. Sad that it never got a US release despite, as you correctly observed, being the most patriotic game ever conceived. Read more

Loader Bot has the body of a killing machine and the soul of a saint. I hope he lives forever. If he dies, I will march to Telltale’s office and protest by throwing mountains of freshly cried-in kleenex at their windows. Read more
I agree completely! Kirk (who might wander into this comment thread, we shall see) adores Fiona, but I find her less interesting than Rhys—both in terms of dialogue and gameplay. I felt like Athena helped Fiona’s character shine (they played off each other well and Fiona seemed like a bowl of rainbows and lollipops in… Read more
I think the dialogue in this one is definitely a bit more challenging, if that’s what you mean. There were a lot of situations where I couldn’t find the exact words I wanted to say, so I had to pick something that felt in character. In some of those cases I didn’t love the outcome, but I think that dissonance is what… Read more
Same! Troubadour was especially great. The crowd was soooooo into it. I loved that Casey asked how many people were at the Pomona show and, like, half the audience raised their hands, and Casey was like, “Why weren’t you this excited last night?” Read more

If you end up liking Margot and The Band With A Really Long Name (But Not As Long As My Joke About Their Name), check out Typhoon. Their second album was my favorite of 2013. Also I have to recommend Cloud Cult at every opportunity, so look them up too. “Light Chasers” was a life-changing album for me. I once sloppily… Read more
Can we all talk about how well this song encapsulates, like, everything TDH is about while embroidering our jackets? Because seriously, 1878 used to be my go-to “this is what a The Dear Hunter is” song, but Night On The Town is even better for that, I think. Read more
If you like TDH, you can’t go wrong with Hotel of the Laughing Tree. Not a carbon copy of TDH or anything, but there are similarities in tone and style. Lots of surprises in their song composition, especially on “Terror and Everything After.” Also good for TDH fans: The River Empires. Casey was involved in that… Read more
Yeah! They’re easily one of my favorite bands. I might have journeyed across the whole of California to see them three times during the Acts tour. And by “might have” I mean “definitely did, and highly recommend it” Read more

The new Shadow Warrior reboot is really good, too! One of the few games where using a sword in first-person doesn’t feel janky or awkward. Also on Steam, but not free. Read more
Also my girlfriend mainly likes to make that joke because Geralt is super pale. Was not really trying to start the whole race discussion because it is hardly one to be broached with a throwaway line. I included the joke because my girlfriend says it all the time and it makes me laugh. I prooooobably should’ve thought… Read more
