I totally forgot about that game. I played it back when I was consumed by Tony Hawk mania. Oh man, that was when Acclaim was still a thing! Time fucking flies (LIKE ROLLERBLADERS AND NOT LIKE THIS JOKE) Read more

I know what you mean. It’s the same sort of faux-’80s fantasyland ideal that’s shown up in things like Far Cry: Blood Dragon. The aesthetic references are there, but the soul isn’t. Or at least, it’s a different soul, the spirit of the ‘80s fused with modern sensibilities that, themselves, emerged from relentless Read more

Truth. And the Reebok deal is complete garbage. I really hope the UFC relents and hashes out something that dicks fighters over at least a little less. Read more

The most recent special was so good. Like, one of the best things Venture Bros has ever done. So much disruption of the status quo, so many excellent gags! I’m basically (and literally, if we’re getting technical) dying waiting for the new season. Read more

I need to get into Pillars again. Played it obsessively for a weekend after it came out, and then just... fell off. I think part of the problem is that I started worrying that I built my characters “wrong,” and even though I know Obsidian tried to encourage freedom with their class/party system, it’s hard to stop Read more

Any time ever on the store. It’s not a subscription or anything like that. It’s just a (hopeful) barrier to entry to stop spammers and scammers from creating tons of dupe accounts. Still, there is a slight trickle down to regular users, especially those who used Steam primarily to play free games. Read more

If you go through the discussions for each map, you can find a few servers. Not sure how active/populated they are, but it's worth a look. Read more

Totally. I'm definitely skeptical about this one, too. No release date and a ton of vague (though promising) goals? That's a dicey proposition. I really want to be hopeful when I see something this cool looking come along, but I know where you're coming from. Read more

Yeah, that part kinda sucks, but it's Steam Greenlight, so what are you gonna do? Greenlight is kinda a cesspit these days, but on the rare occasions something really cool-looking pops up, I definitely want to draw attention to it. I think I'm gonna keep using the "Greenlight Spotlight" tag for that so a) people will Read more

If you die in the game, you die in real life. Boom, now all video games are nauseatingly exciting. Read more

I hope there’s also a scene where the teens find an old Hydro Thunder machine and are like, “haha this used to be video games lol” and some enterprising youtube channel records it and it goes viral Read more

I cringe so hard every time I see ads for that movie. It reeks so much of “out-of-touch Hollywood execs want a movie about ‘what the kids are saying these days’” that I can’t fucking stand it. I cannot even, to quote the probable title of the next big horror hit. Read more

I look different because Time Takes Its Toll On Us All (and also I decided to grow my hair out), and I sound different probably because I'm getting over a cold. I am surprised I didn't have to blow my nose, like, 30 times during the stream. Read more

I’m working to un-gray comments, but it’s a frustratingly slow process. And I agree: if someone is un-grayed on Kotaku proper, they should stay that way on Steamed. Sorry about the current state of things :( Read more

Because I think Steam is its own thing, its own ecosystem. While it’s a large part of PC gaming, it’s not all of it. Steam has its own eccentricities, trends, and issues. I want to focus on those instead of going super (perhaps even overly) broad. And honestly, tons of other sites already cover “PC gaming” as a larger Read more
