If I was putting on my game designer hat, I’d guess the cap exists to prevent players from grinding a ton against easy bots for fast credits. I think you can play this without running into too much garbage. At the very least, I didn’t run into much. There was some crud in chat but I also tend to turn chat in my UI for games like this so that sort of became a non-issue. It’s really easy to mute people too; a quick button press and click. You can but that’s still a bit of a gamble if I recall. The game is pretty much always checking your sneak score against the NPC’s while you’re pickpocketing. That check is then augmented by the value of any item you’re stealing or dropping in their inventory.
