The Angry Birds franchise has only been around since December 2009. Yet, today, Finnish developer Rovio announced that its hit mobile game has been downloaded more than one billion times.

For some perspective, the U.S. Census' world population currently estimate around 7 billion people on planet Earth. Even if you've got folks who've grabbed all of the Angry Birds games— Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio and the just-out Angry Birds Space—that still a level of penetration that boggles the mind.

Birds games exist on multiple platforms, from mobile to home consoles to browsers and desktop download hubs. However, if you've been trying to access Angry Birds Space via the Mac App Store, you may have noticed that the game's mysteriously vanished. Users have reported graphical glitches and wiped scores after a recent update. When contacted by Kotaku, Rovio responded with the following:

"We removed the game while we're fixing some bugs, and we'll have a patched version available as soon as possible."

Hey, you can't reach a billion downloads without a few broken eggs, I guess. Kotaku will update this story once Rovio issues a patch.
