Alien: Isolation Fan Art Really Nails The 'Deserted Space Station' Feel

Retro tech, abandoned coffee cups, unmade beds, monitors saying “LOST CONTACT” in all caps. Yep, that’s a deserted Alien space station, alright.

This is yet another piece of university coursework, made by environment artist Azam Khan from the UK—another Staffordshire University alumnus, like the guy who made the BioShock piece from earlier—as his final project for his Advanced Modeling module. It was rendered in Unreal Engine 4, and shared on the Unreal Engine forums this Friday.

I knew several hotshot animators at SCAD who produced stuff at this level of quality even during their lower-level animation courses. While the rest of the class was there to learn the ropes and get a feel for the medium, it was guaranteed there would be one or two who would completely flaunt the fact that they’d already been doing this for years.

“Oh, here’s my project I did over the weekend.” —proceeds to show off 2-minute video with simulated hand-held camera angles, motion blur and subsurface scattering on an assignment that only required a 15-second clip.

One of them even dropped out before graduating because they were offered a job at a big-name game developer while they were still in class. They just straight-up disappeared halfway through the quarter.
