RE: Prepare for April Fools
A long, long time ago, back when Mrs. Bashcraft and I were first married and back before I started working at Kotaku, I got a call from Mrs. Bashcraft. I was out and about, and she was at home. Our ferret, Milk Tea, had escaped from his cage.
"I can't find him," she said.
"Did you look around?"
She said she did. I told her to call me back when she found him. Five minutes passed. No phone call. So I rang her back, asking her where the ferret was.
"The sliding to the balcony..."
"Yes...?"
"Is cracked open. Wide enough for Milk Tea to squeeze through. Did you close it?"
I thought so. I mean, I remember going out on the balcony for a smoke (I used to smoke, how awful!). Maybe I didn't close it. Maybe it was my fault the ferret got out.
Mrs. Bashcraft, phone in hand, went out on the balcony, saying she couldn't find Milk Tea. I told her to look over the balcony, but she didn't want to. I felt awful. This was horrible. Then Mrs. Bashcraft asked, "Do you know what day it is?"
"April 1st."
"That's right," she said, "April 1st." And hung up!
