In today's totally timely episode of Speak Up on Kotaku, commenter Mindsale would like to have a word with the publishers of this fall's biggest video games.
Hey there publishers,
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DELAY SOMETHING.
January is all yours if you do. People have a lot of extra holiday cash lying around in early January, burning holes in their pockets and begging to be spent on media, while they're lethargic from fruitcake, hungover from New Year's champagne, and it's much too cold to think about doing anything outside. Gears, Rage, Dark Souls, Batman, Battlefield, Uncharted, Modern Warfare, Elder Scrolls, Assassin's Creed, Mariokart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, Skyward Sword - that's like $700 in videogames I'm extremely interested in, and that's not even including the HD remakes I've sworn myself off of just so I can focus on the new, AAA titles.
So just delay something. C'mon. Bethesda, you know that now would be a great time to hire those QA testers you never bother to, maybe find some bugs in your coding. 2/2/12 almost sounds as nice as 11/11/11, and people will be less pissed to not have their saves lost or encounter a game-breaking glitch.
Or Nintendo - just up-res Skyward Sword, release it for the Wii U. You're going to need a hard-hitting system seller, and with all the 3DS re-works, it's not like you're going to change your reputation as a system-abandoner.
I know you all want a piece of the holiday pie, but it's tough for me as a connoisseur of your products. Whoever wins, my wallet loses.
