Konami rebirths another of its 8-bit classics—admittedly, we may be a little fast and loose with that accolade—revealing an update to its 1985 side-scrolling stab-a-thon Rush'n Attack, currently in the works for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.

Known as Rush'n Attack Ex-Patriot, the side-scrolling arcadey throwback is planned to hit the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3's respective digital distribution networks sometime this fall. It's in development at Czech studio Vatra Games, the same developers chugging away at a new Silent Hill game for the 360/PS3.

Rush'n Attack Ex-Patriot will let players slice and shoot their way through a Siberian prison complex, a bio-weapons laboratory and a nuclear weapons base, all the while "armed with a little more than a knife." Yes. If knifing Russians sounds like something you'd be into and have never played the arcade or NES releases of Rush'n Attack, you can always grab the Xbox Live Arcade port of the 1985 version.
