You know hotcakes? The 360's selling like 'em. The company have announced during their TGS address this morning that, since a range of price-cuts were introduced for the console across the US, Europe and Japan over the past few months, sales have - shockingly - increased. According to Microsoft's John Schappert, US 360 sales have "doubled", European sales are up by "62%", and they're up "five-fold" in Japan. Whichever way you look at it, that's an increase. They clearly have the best piece of equipment out there, but I personally think the decision makers inside the company are idiots.
I don't like Microsoft - In any of their business, and I think they're an arrogant, bullying mafia, but a very smart one. Clearly MS has lost a lot more money than Sony has, you know all those exclusives aren't really because the companies like them - they pay, and they keep their ends of bargains, they lowered prices....but I think in the long run it will be a score for them.
What's ironic, for really getting juice from your 360 you have to pay something close to what a PS3 costs (internet + live + hdd), but consumers don't see that.
Microsoft's message is very clear, Nintendo's is very clear - PLAY GAMES.
Sony on the other hand has made so many bad decisions, and has delivered such a muddled message that only people with a brain can really get them - I'm convinced that it's a really high value proposition and I love my ps3, but not everyone can digest so much functionailty or even understand it - most people won't get what a bluray is.
They need to fire the engineers and hire some marketers or business people to make decisions, they're to focused on cutting costs, but it's stupid trying to cut costs making signficant downgrades to the console (no ps2 bc) so far down the line, they should've planned it from the beggining you know, cutting costs this far should only be concerned with making more efficient the production, size, getting better deals from material providers - Not chaning the functionality, they should also, you know, try not to loose an exclusive every time there's a gaming show.
I'm very dissapointed at Sony's incompetent team and I'll be glad for them to learn their lesson this generation, finishing last.
And congrats to Microsoft for a game well played.
