Call the doctor, Mario 0h-oh.
It was on June 27, 1990 that Nintendo released Mario’s medical puzzle game for the Game Boy and NES, setting in motion the North American marketing effort that would result in the youngest doctor this side of Doogie Houser scatting in my head for all eternity. And by scatting I am referring to the music practice of singing nonsensical lyrics. Also, it pooped my brain.
Dr. Mario has been released and re-released on just about every Nintendo console since. Most recently the character returned to the Smash Bros. scene as a fully-playable character in the Wii U and 3DS games. He’s even got his own Amiibo figure. Perhaps if I buy one and burn it in a pentagram I will finally stop playing this song in my head every time he’s mentioned.
