Adventure franchise Uncharted has a Hollywood film in the works, and it sounds just terrible. There might be a sliver of hope.
The movie apparently stars Mark Wahlberg, which isn't a bad thing, because he is a talented actor. Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci are supposedly attached, too. Likewise, not bad things! It's just the project's direction that sounds rotten.
Here's how David O. Russell (Three Kings, The Fighter) explained his vision for the flick: "This idea really turns me on that there's a family that's a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquities ... [a family] that deals with heads of state and heads of museums and metes out justice."
Russell is currently in talks to helm a movie version of the 2 Guns graphic novel series about a DEA agent and a undercover naval intelligence officer. Actor Vince Vaughn is set to star.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Russell is expected to direct 2 Guns after Uncharted apparently begins shooting this summer. But Hollywood is notorious for starting and stopping projects. Movie languish in development hell, and it's amazing they ever get anything made. Russell has several films lined up. With so much depending on scheduling and timing, it's certainly possible that 2 Guns could come first, buying Uncharted some time before being turned into a movie about a family of treasure hunters. Blergh.
