Years after Diablo III’s seasons first started, they’re finally coming to consoles. Just as PC players begin clicking their way through the game’s 10th season, those who decided to go with the superior version of Diablo III will get to start seasonal characters on Friday, March 31.
Seasons, of course, are limited periods (usually lasting around three months) in which every player can start a “seasonal character” from scratch and use it to get loot, overcome challenges, and compete for points with other seasonal characters on a big, addictive leaderboard. After each season ends, your seasonal character will transform into a normal non-seasonal character.
That’s in addition to character armories for snapshotting builds, “primal ancient” gear that comes with perfect stat rolls, and a bunch of other new tweaks that come with this week’s new Diablo III patch.
Of course, it’s still safe to wonder whether Diablo III is winding down (or even whether it’s been winding down for the past two years) given the lack of new expansions or significant content. Later this year, Blizzard will put out the Necromancer character pack, and then, well, who knows? At GDC earlier this month I sat down with a couple of Diablo III designers, but sadly, they wouldn’t say much about the future of their action-RPG.
