I haven’t spent much time with the customization options in Euro Truck Simulator 2, mostly because I’ve been too busy causing accidents and being just as bad at parking as I am in real life. But those of you who want even more control over every aspect of your fantasy truck will be pleased to know SCS Software is bringing you “ultimate wheel customization.”
SCS’s forthcoming update to Euro Truck Simulator 2 and its American cousin, American Truck Simulator, will make wheel customization “more varied, more flexible, more fun.” They’ve split wheel components into hubs, hubcaps, and nuts. The colors, shapes, and styles of these can be changed to trick out the truck tires of your dreams, if you’re the kind of person who dreams about truck tires. You can see it in action in the video below.
I’ll be honest that I’ve seldom thought about hubcaps in real life, much less in Euro Truck Simulator, but customization options that help your truck feel more like yours sound like a good addition to a game whose allure, in my mind, hinges mostly on the stories you make up along the way. One of my favorite things to do in the game is to start at one end of Europe, turn on a radio station from a country on the other end, and haul cargo until I get there. It’s a kind of video game version of National Lampoon’s European Vacation, though my hijinks mostly involve getting traffic tickets.
I haven’t had a chance to check out American Truck Simulator yet, largely because they haven’t added enough America for me to live out my dream of driving by my own house. However, our friends at Kotaku UK enjoyed learning how Californians drive during their time with it.
