As tired as 8-bit homages can feel sometimes, it’s great when really clever nods to old-school video games make you chuckle. Take these recent covers from various Valiant Entertainment comic books. They’re great.

Let’s give Valiant some props. Not only have they done this sort of thing before, they also release an actual retro-styled game a while back. And they’re resurrecting one of the funniest superhero series of all time, to boot. If only there were a Quantum and Woody co-op adventure in development somewhere…

Holy crap. X-O Manowar is still around? I remember absolutely HATING the crappy X-O Manowar/Iron Man game I had for... Saturn? Dreamcast? One of the two.

Only ever read one Manowar comic, but I disliked it, partially because it was int he middle of some huge story arc with no recap, and partially because of the memories of that terrible game.
