Yesterday, Rockstar Games shared a ton of new information about Grand Theft Auto 6 ahead of the game’s pre-orders going live on June 25. While a lot of this new info was just Rockstar advertising all the reasons you should spend $100 on the Ultimate Edition of GTA 6, if we dig into the text and look around, we can find some interesting details about the upcoming open-world game. And when we combine these details with what we know from past leaks and trailers, it paints a picture of GTA 6 that hints at a very big game stuffed with things to do, clothes to buy, guns to tweak, and people to rob. Here are 10 new details we learned from all the recent GTA 6 marketing information.
You’ll be able to fence stolen items
A feature that is mentioned a few times on GTA 6‘s official page for the Ultimate Edition is the ability to deposit and then fence stolen goods. It seems some vehicles will let you stash stolen merch in them to sell later for cash. Could this hint at the return of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas‘ fan-favorite burglary missions? Perhaps! At the very least, it seems like you’ll be able to lose these stolen goods unless they are locked up tight, which might add more stakes to a police chase.
Weapon customization is back
Customizing and tweaking firearms played a big role in Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online, so it’s not surprising to see it return in GTA 6. The Special Edition comes with some very special revolvers that feature distinctive cosmetic touches, hinting at a larger weapon customization system in the upcoming open-world game.
It sounds like RDR2′s weapon loadout system is in GTA 6
One of the intriguing bits of information found among all the Ultimate Edition marketing text is the numerous mention of weapon lockers and how they will let players “customize your loadout for any occasion.” That makes it sound a lot like Red Dead Redemption 2‘s limited weapon loadout system is going to be included in GTA 6, meaning you won’t be able to carry 50 different guns and rockets on your body like in past games. The GTA 6 leaks from 2022 actually pointed to this being the case, with test footage showing Jason picking up and dropping rifles and using a sling to stow larger guns on his back.
And so is Red Dead 2‘s chapter structure
Another part of RDR2 that is seemingly being integrated into GTA 6 is chapters. This is mentioned briefly in some text explaining that the various Ultimate Edition bonuses included in that $100 version of the game will be “threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter.”
In Red Dead Redemption 2, the game’s story was divided across six main chapters and two epilogue chapters. When a chapter ended, it often marked a big shift for the characters, sometimes opening new areas of the world or massively changing their situation. Hopefully, this means GTA 6‘s story feels more like RDR2‘s grounded and thoughtful narrative than it does like past GTA entries, which often felt like popular crime movies stapled together.
Players will be tasked with collecting classic cars
Finding old cars and completing a “Classic Car Collection” is one of the new side activities that Rockstar teased on its updated website for GTA 6. While some cars will be locked behind the Ultimate Edition, it sounds like there will be plenty of other beat-up or decaying vehicles to find around the map. Once players find one of these classics, they can bring it back to a mechanic to get if fixed up and added to the collection. Sounds like someone at Rockstar Games has played some Forza Horizon and liked that franchise’s Barn Finds.
Gang Compounds are another possible side activity
Another piece of Ultimate Edition marketing describes a location as a “Gang Compound,” which sounds like it might be a kind of open-world activity featuring gang hideouts that players can attack and plunder for stolen goods, which then can likely be fenced for lots of money. Rockstar mentions that one of these Gang Compounds will be exclusive to the Ultimate Edition, but it sounds like there will be more than one. Players will need to fight gang members and then “escape safely to score some special items and distinct contraband.”
Vehicle customization returns
As you might expect, you’ll be able to customize vehicles in GTA 6. There are numerous mentions of car modifications and off-road kits on the GTA 6 website. Some of this stuff will be exclusive to the Ultimate Edition, but it’s clear that the concept of modifying cars is back, and it seems like players will have far more options than ever before.
There will be a lot of clothing and hair options, too
Speaking of more options than ever before, it seems like this time around, GTA 6‘s two main characters will have more clothing, hair, and make-up options than any previous GTA protagonist. Again, some of these cosmetics are locked behind the $100 paywall, which is annoying, but based on all the screenshots and trailers for GTA 6 we’ve seen so far, and with confirmation from Rockstar of clothing and makeup shops being included, it does appear that you’ll be able to play dress-up in a way we’ve not seen before in a GTA game.
You’ll likely be watching episodes of Macca the Gator on in-game TVs
Some of the Ultimate Edition clothing references “a hit TV show character, Macca the Gator.” I’d bet a pizza and a Coke that Macca the Gator will be an animated TV show available to watch on in-game TVs, similar to the shows that were featured in GTA IV and GTA V.
Fishing is probably a part of GTA 6
I’m going to call it now: You’ll be able to fish in Grand Theft Auto 6. One of the Ultimate Edition bonuses, a large boat, includes this text: “Perfect for casting in Gambit Bay and reeling in catches of all sorts.” That by itself might not be evidence of fishing in the game, but from the GTA 6 leaks from 2022, we know that Rockstar was developing bait shops and other fishing mechanics. So yeah, I’ve seen enough: Fishing is in GTA 6. Heck, it was in RDR2 already. And so much of RDR2 seems to be creeping its way into GTA 6. So why not fishing, too?
