The Final Fantasy Type-0 Fan Translation Comes Out In August

The story of Final Fantasy Type-0 is long and depressing: released for PSP in 2011, Square Enix's role-playing game never made it outside of Japan, despite being announced at E3 in North America, and for years now, fans have been wondering whether we'll ever get to play it in English.

(Adding insult to injury: I've heard rumblings that Square Enix has a near-finished English script of the game lying around, but that for whatever reason, localization plans were cancelled.)

Last year, comments from Square Enix suggested that maybe Type-0 could actually come to North America, but nothing's come to fruition yet. The good news: fans have created their own translation patch, and it's almost done. They plan to release it on August 8, which gives Square plenty of time to announce their Type-0 Vita remake or whatever other fantasy projects they have planned.

I asked Square Enix for comment on this stuff—and about any plans to release the game here—a few weeks ago, but haven't heard back. I'll update if they have any statements.
