Sorry, Tobey Maguire. Despite having been attached to the project (at Warner Bros.) for what feels like forever, Variety reports today that Sony have now picked up the rights to the classic animated series, and are getting serious about making not just one Robotech movie, but lots of them.
Yesterday we learned that 80s classic anime Robotech will be returning with the new series, Robotech Academy. It will be paid for via Kickstarter—which is more than a little apt as Robotech's creator, the late Carl Macek predicted the eventual existence of crowdfunding all the way back in 1995.
Today at Anime Expo 2014, Harmony Gold announced their plans to bring back classic 80s anime Robotech via Kickstarter.
