Konami announced today that the "gun metal gray" special edition PlayStation 3—described as being "very, very limited" when confirmed for a stateside release—bundled with Metal Gear Solid 4 and a DualShock 3 controller will only be available for purchase from Konami's web site. Priced at $599.99 USD, it will sport 40GB worth of hard drive space in addition to it's unique, flat finish.
Don't confuse it with the regular MGS4 PS3 bundle, which will ring up at $499.99 and comes with an 80GB hard drive. Yes, you're paying $100 for gray pride.
Pre-orders open May 19 at Konami.com. Considering how swimmingly the Metal Gear Online beta sign up process went, we'd suggest having more than one computer at the ready for what may be frantic pre-ordering action.

Taking a can of Krylon to your PS3 is arguably less shameful than paying that much extra for a paintjob.
Actually you're paying $175 for gray paint since the 40gb model should be $100 cheaper than the 80gb. But $25 off for it having the limited editon of MGS4 where the other bundle has the regular version.

I kid, I kid. Please, no one get butthurt. Hopefully the 80GB bundles will be available after reviews are out, I might get one if the game gets good impressions.(Never been into MGS before, but this one looks top notch.)

I think they are targeting people who already have a PS3, if you don't have one yet then you aren't a big enough fan of MGS to get one of these.

Hmm. Now that it's put out there like that I've changed my mind about wanting this to be my intro to the PS3 world. $100 is not worth any color, except MAAAYBE Cold Coors Light grey.

remember this Bundle includes MGS4 limited edition thats worth at $85 instead of 60 for the normal edition which is bundled with the regular $499 bundle. So its not $100 more JUST for a nice grey finish.

I think Konami is getting confused... This isn't Japan we're talking about. In the US, people aren't going to pay extra for an inferior product simply because it's collectible... At least, not gamers...

Although I'm not a fan of the great Metal Gear series, I am rooting for this game 150%. I hope this really helps the PS3 sales in NA so we can start getting some decent games. Maybe the sales will give Namco and Square Enix the slap upside the head they need to start showing us some PS3 love.

How exactly does that make sense to you? I'm a pretty huge MGS fan, to the extent of double- and triple-dipping of each previous MGS game --- yet I don't own a PS3 yet. I was heavily considering this gray model for an additional $100 as my first PS3, but considering how it's a 40GB model without the ability to play the PS2 MGS games at $200 more than a non-gray model, it's not even a thought in my mind anymore.
I will be buying a cheaper, more capable, and (in my opinion) equally nice looking shiny-black MGS4 PS3 bundle.

I doubt there's going to be many of these. I'd say just a few thousand, if not less. I'm sure they'll sell out within the first 3 days, and months later you will see them going for a pretty penny on ebay.
