Artist Jake Murray pays tribute to classic RPG series Xenogears in the best way possible: with heroic fan art of star Elly Van Houten.

Isn't it great? It's like something you'd see on the cover of a sci-fi novel in the late 80's, all giant robots and strong women and hair.

For reference, this isn't a digital piece; it's an actual painting, done in oil, and it's 20" x 30" in size.

Nice technique, but I feel that it just doesn't work.

Some things can never be rendered any other ways, Anime is one of them.

Xenogears was a painfully anime game, and this piece is definitely rendered very...western.

It kinda feels wrong, as wrong as you know, that old Zelda cartoon, or if someone tries to render Cloud's hair as an oil painting.
