Xenoblade Chronicles Gets A Port, But Only For The New 3DS

Monolith Soft's 2010 open-world RPG is going portable.

The game will be utilizing the freshly announced 3DS model's upgraded hardware, according to Nintendo, which means it will not be playable on current 3DS consoles.

You can watch the trailer above. Xenoblade Chronicles for the New 3DS will be out in Japan next year, with no word yet on whether it will be coming to the West.

Use Your Words!

Seriously? They're making a new 3DS that can only play specific games, effectively fucking old 3DS owners? I hope this game is an exception and not a rule.

I mean, the new 3DS looks great and I'm glad they made the second analog an essential tool but I'm going to be pretty pissed off if I suddenly find myself missing out on new games (or forced to buy the new handheld) because of a small upgrade.

Chances are that I'll buy it eventually — I'm still using a launch day 3DS. But I don't want to be forced to upgrade only 4 years after the last iteration. That's too short of a hardware cycle.
