Who Wouldn't Pay a Subscription Fee for New Games Every Month?

Commenter Blessrok remembers the good old days of the Sega Channel in today's Speak Up on Kotaku, and wonders how many gamers would flock to a monthly game subscription service on modern day consoles. No, PlayStation Plus doesn't count.

I remember fondly as a kid having the Sega Channel. I thought it was the best thing ever and the first of every month I'd get excited because it meant having another batch of new games at the ready whenever I wanted to play them. I think if it wasn't for the Sega Channel I would never have even played nearly as many Genesis games as I had or even heard of them. I know going to Blockbuster I'd even look at box art and go "nah", but w/the Sega Channel I found out how truly great some of those games were because I was free from the risk of losing my allowance to a crap game.

I wonder if subscription based gaming could be popular these days. If you could subscribe to something like the Sega Channel for modern consoles, would you?
