The Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo's upcoming glasses-free 3D gaming handheld, does not yet have a finalized name. The "Nintendo 3DS" is a temporary moniker for the portable. So what will it ever be called?
At a recent financial briefing, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata was asked about the 3DS name — whether or not Nintendo will stick with it or when it when get a new name. "Since we've stated that it will go on sale during the present term," Iwata replied, "I think the formal name will be made public in the not so distant future."
Nintendo previously stated that the entirely new handheld console will go on sale between April 2010 and March 2011 (AKA this financial year). Nintendo will be unveiling the new hardware for the first time at the E3 gaming expo in Los Angeles. It is assumed that the portable will get its finalized name then.
