Well, that was underwhelming: After announcing "the wait is over" late last week, Xi3 has revealed… some slightly more detailed specs for their $1000 Piston living-room PC, as well as a release date of November 29. The Piston will not natively use SteamOS.
Steam splicing in a missing link between consoles and PCs? Awesome!
Steam making a bizarre controller to bridge the gap? Skeptical.
An underpowered PC that costs twice as much as even a XB1 (and more than twice the cost of the PS4). Meh.
They may be going great places with this, but it's going to be at least 2-3 years before we see Steam as an alternative to the PC/Console dichotomy. They have a LOT to work out to make this viable.
