This video shows Richard Ryan lining up some bottles of champagne and trying to shoot the corks off. Using an enormous .50 cal sniper rifle.

It's not the fact that he nails it that's most interesting; its the slow-mo footage of what happens to the bullet and cork once they impact.

How does the physics of that work? I would have expected the bottle to simply break, but the cork breaks in half and then the bottom part jumps up. Why?
