These LittleBigPlanet Awards Will Remind You Of Your Cosmic Insignificance

Oftentimes we float through life, content to feel as though we are a Very Big Deal. See this room I'm in? I'm the only person in it! I matter, man!

And then we come across something that makes us remember that oh yeah, the world is a gigantic place, filled to the brim with people, and they're all just out there doing things and making other things and being humans. And there are so many of them.

LittleBigPlanet 2's "2011 Sackie" awards feel a bit like the Total Perspective Vortex from Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide books. (The Total Perspective Vortex was a device designed to show you the entire universe all at once, shattering your soul).

In fact, LBP2 can kinda be like that for me in general—behind the main menu lies a mind-bogglingly vast array of people just… making stuff, using the game's myriad (and time-consuming!) editing tools to create whatever they can imagine.

Over at LittleBigPlanet.com, they've posted videos with the nominees for every category, and readers can vote on their favorites. They've even made a whole fake awards Academy Awards-style presentation video for each category.

The videos are posted in the gallery above, starting with "Level of the Year." Some amazing stuff in there, including "Urban Music Maker," the Action RPG "Sealed Fate," and "FreeFallin'," a 3D Skydiving game.

You can, of course, visit the site to check out how to download each of the levels as well—but it's fun just to check out the best of what people have created.
