Guitar Hero publisher Activision has already announced its intentions to take a breather from the music game genre in 2011, now it appears that the Rock Band team will cool its heels as well. But there's some good news for Rock Band 3 owners.

Chris Rigopulos, VP of Strategy and Business Development for Rock Band creators Harmonix, tells Game Informer that company is "not planning a Rock Band 4 disc release in 2011."

Instead, it will focus its efforts on delivering fresh and new Rock Band 3 downloadable goods.

"Rock Band 3 is a big game with lots of available music content and lots of new goals and challenges," the other Rigopulos explains. "We want to give our fans the time to explore that fully. But rest assured that Harmonix is still developing new ideas and concepts to advance the Rock Band franchise, and we look forward to sharing those when the time is right."

What Harmonix will release for its fans is new music from Foo Fighters, Lady Gaga, and Ozzy Osbourne starting in May. Also coming is the "epic 13-minute jam" Peter Frampton's "Do You Feel Like We Do," plucked from Frampton Comes Alive.

Harmonix surely has something else up its sleeve in 2011, if nothing more than an expected follow-up to Kinect hit Dance Central.
