Big Fish Games' Fairway Solitaire — an odd mix of the classic card game and golf — took us by surprise back in 2012. We won't make the same mistake with the sequel, Fairway Solitaire Blast, coming to iOS and Android April 3.
I can feel those eye rolls, you know. I realize presenting you folks with a game that's one part golf and one-part Solitaire is a dangerous proposition. Add to that the fact that this is a free-to-play mobile game, and I might as well just start up the old automatic "don't care" comment generator. I felt much the same way when Totilo first presented the original Fairway Solitaire as his Gaming App of the Day back in 2012.
But I've loved Solitaire since Windows 3.1, so I gave it a chance, and it was really excellent.
So now we have the sequel. It looks a bit like this.
Fairway Solitaire Blast is faster, sharper, and filled with power-ups capable of blowing cards that don't fit your sorting agenda off of the screen — with fire. The golf bits feel a lot less like golf this time around — you've got a bucket of cards, and have to clear the board before they run out in order to progress — but it makes up for it in tension and action. Also, flaming gophers.
Fairway Solitaire Blast comes out on April 3 from Big Fish Games, at which point you should at the very least download it and give it a try. If you hate it, I will personally refund your official purchase price.
Yes, the game is free.
