Maybe you'll want some Gears paraphernalia. And an artbook written by a smart man. And a statue. And a flag. And maybe you'll want to be able to play online as hero Marcus Fenix' dad.

All that and more will be available in two special editions of Gears of War 3, announced by Microsoft today:

And, Spoons

These are starting to resemble the old Infocom games with their odd selection of pack-ins. As such, I think they should include a text adventure version of Gears 3:

Courtyard

You are standing in the ruins of a courtyard. Everything is very brownish grey, like all the color has been sucked out of it. You faintly hear a cover of a Tears For Fears song in the distance. Streets lead North and West.

>go north

Deserted Street

The walls of nearby buildings have been reduced to rubble, partially blocking the street. As you walk around a pile of rubble, you spot three Locust drones on patrol. They do not seem to have noticed you. A collapsed section of wall looks like it could provide some cover.

>shoot locust

(with the Lancer)

You fire at the nearest Locust. You have the element of surprise — he goes down quickly. The other two Locust utter alarmed gutteral sounds, and then quickly turn and start firing at you.

>shoot locust

You fire in their direction, but their combined firepower is too much for you. You should have taken cover, what do you think this is, Call of Duty?

You are dead.
